Health care professionals were once taught that restraints would ensure resident safety. Caregivers began to believe that physical restraints can help protect residents; when in fact restraints can cause more harm than good. MetaStar is partnering with a select group of Wisconsin nursing homes to improve the safety of its residents through the reduction and elimination of physical restraints. By using quality improvement strategies and evidence-based methodology, restraint reduction can be achieved in Wisconsin. 

MetaStar is providing technical and educational assistance to those nursing homes that are interested in working on reducing physical restraints within their facility. Free resources and tools are available to all nursing homes in Wisconsin to assist with restraint reduction in the state.
