Medicare Quality Initiatives Serving as Medicare's Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) in Wisconsin furthers MetaStar's mission to improve the quality of health care delivery and health outcomes for individuals in Wisconsin.
In August 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services gave the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program an updated charter for leading change, with bold goals putting the patient at the center of care. As a major force and trustworthy partner for improvement, MetaStar is working with health care providers and other quality stakeholders to improve and integrate patient care and improve health for populations and communities. Quality priorities include reducing health care-acquired infections and conditions, reducing adverse drug events, and increasing the use of electronic health records to coordinate preventive services. MetaStar also protects the rights of Medicare beneficiaries by reviewing complaints about quality and appeals about the denial or discontinuation of services.
