Steve Laking Retires from MetaStar after 40 Years

Steve Laking officially retired today from MetaStar after 40 years with the organization.

Madison, Wisconsin — Steve Laking officially retired today from MetaStar after 40 years with the organization.

“Steve’s contributions have impacted our organization, our current and former staff, and all of our customers,” said Greg Simmons, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We will sincerely miss him, but have confidence in our path forward due to his clear guidance through this transition.”

Laking joined one of MetaStar’s predecessor organizations (WisPRO) in 1977 as a District Manager and quickly became Director of Regional Operations. Since 1986, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, he was responsible for the leadership, facilitation, and coordination of the corporation’s activities, including all operational divisions of the company.

During the past 40 years, Laking has helped lead MetaStar through the following transitions:

  • Recontracting with Medicare and Medicaid repeatedly over the past 40 years.
  • Navigating the purchase and construction of MetaStar’s headquarters in Madison.
  • Development of commercial services, including HEDIS Compliance Audits™, Continuing Education, and Health Information Technology support services.
  • Implementing the Baldrige Framework of Excellence at MetaStar. MetaStar recently earned the top award, Wisconsin Forward Award Excellence level in 2017.
